The title "Juvenile Justice" may bring to mind, conscientious professionals working hard to investigate, present evidence, and defend juveniles accused of sometimes trivial, but more than likely a serious felony, in which the Juvenile could be sent to adult criminal court, California Youth Authority (CYA), camp, be taken from their parents, or placed under the monitoring of a stranger, someone from the County Probation Department.

Infringement on our Forth Amendment Rights against unreasonable searches & seizures have reached a new high ( or should we say a new low) here in the U.S. of America.  It used to be that we expected that our freedom extended to our homes & in our vehicles that were closed to the views of the public.  We had an "expectation of privacy" in what we did outside the sight of the public.  Not anymore, the United States Government had purchased under the guise of protecting our highways from terrorists a fleet of undercover vans equipped with back-scatter x-ray technology that can see through more than a foot of metal.  We can now feel safer that Osama Bin Laden will be found hiding in the trunk of a Chevy traveling down highway Interstate 10.  The Government much like it said in the days leading up to the "Patriot Act" would not be utilizing these new statutes and technologies against ordinary citizens.  The point being that these vans are being used by Homeland Security on behalf of our general overall security.  It won't take long before these technologies are used in everyday law enforcement activities.  Questions abound about the safety to the public for these technologies in searches for drugs, illegal aliens, smugglers, hiding places etc.  These technologies can penetrate homes & cars, trucks & vans exposing unsuspecting occupants with x-rays.  On top of the apparently abusive pat down searches in order to get on an airplane these days, Americans appear to be more than willing to give up rights that have been in place for more than 200 years without so much as a public debate on the subject.  Have the terrorists won?  Have we become so paranoid that we need to look over our shoulders for the buggy man in the shadows.  For more information on the subject of the X-ray vans log onto the Blog for Manto & Kassebaum, LLP at:  http://www.criminallawyermiamiflorida.com/blog/?p=22
